Utqiagvik, Alaska town won't see the sun for 65 days

Utqiagvik, Alaska, formerly known as Barrow, experienced its last sunrise and sunset onkd Sunday for about two months.
The town of about 4,000 people is now beginning its 65-day period of darkness, known as polar night.

Polar night is a common term in places that don't experience sunrise for more than 24 hours, according to CNN meteorologist Judson Jones.

"This happens every year," Jones said. "If you live above the Arctic Circle, there will be a day when the sun sets for the rest of winter. The good news? It will return and then during the summer when it won't set for days."

The northern third of Alaska lies above the Arctic Circle, the ring of latitude that encircles the frigid Arctic polar region.
Although Utqiagvik is not the only Alaskan town to experience this phenomenon, it is the first one on the polar night location list because of how far north it is.

For about one to two months, the residents of Kaktovik, Point Hope and Anaktuvuk Pass will also be without the sun. Their final sunsets will happen between late November and early December, according to CNN affiliate KTUU.

The sun officially set at 1:43 p.m. Sunday in Utqiagvik, starting its 65-day hiatus from the town. It won't peek above the horizon again until January 23, 2019.

After I spent N400m per state, Buhari refused to give appointments –Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki says the people of Kwara would not have been suffering today if they had been given enough federal appointments.

Saraki said had Kwara people been given appointments, they would have been able to approve money for party supporters which would have eased their suffering.

The Senate President was heard saying this in an audio clip while addressing Peoples Democratic Party members recently.

The audio was first posted by blogger, Kayode Ogundamisi, on his verified Twitter handle.

Saraki said during the run-up to the 2015 general elections, he campaigned for President Muhammadu Buhari in every state of the country except the six South-West states.

“Even on the phone, I was calling and giving banks instructions. Our thinking was that when we get elected, we would get the majority of appointments. I even told majority of you then that we shall all be going to Abuja together after the election.

“I thought some of you would be appointed to head federal agencies like road maintenance like FERMA, NITDA, NPA and others. Because I know that if any Kwara son becomes even just the ED of UBEC, I know what he can approve from his desk. Whether N1m or N2m.

“But for the first time since we joined politics, you have a President of the Senate or even Speaker that cannot appoint a cleaner. I am not referring to board appointees who just collect money per sitting.

“If you look at the agencies where they appointed executive positions, what do you want me to say?”

Lagos Government Gives Conditions For Use Of Hijab On School Uniforms

The Lagos State Government has approved the use of hijab in schools across the state.
The approval was contained in a circular dated November 13, 2018, which provided guidelines for wearing the hijab on school uniforms, pending the determination of the case in the Supreme Court.

According to the circular, students will be "allowed to wear Hijabs on school uniforms but same must be short, smart, neat and in the colour of the school uniform (skirt)".

The statement continued: "Furthermore, schools management are advised to downplay comments and disciplinary actions on the use of smart Hijabs until the final determination of the case by the Supreme Court."

Responding to the move by the state government, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, commended the Lagos State Government.
A press statement by Dr Saheed Ashafa, the President of the MSSN Lagos, noted that "the circular would help to stop harassment and victimisation of female Muslim students for wearing hijab".

He said: “We extol this gesture and the resoluteness of the state government in ensuring that an avoidable strife do not find ways into the peaceful atmosphere being enjoyed in Lagos State.

“We are pleased with this development because the embarrassing way and manner that our members are being victimised, harassed, punished and denied entrance into their classrooms for wearing hijab would stop.

“We have constantly told the state government that while a case on the hijab is awaiting final verdict at the Supreme Court, no teacher has the right to punish female pupils for wearing hijab. The Appeal Court in the case clearly states that wearing hijab by students, whether within or outside the school premises, was a fundamental Human Right entrenched in the constitution.

“It is important to notify you that we will not allow further lawlessness and flagrant disregard for rule of law to stay after this circular. The circular would also help to stop the abuse of rights, which could have degenerated into crisis or violence that may lead to the disruption of activities in schools in our dear state.

“We commend this intervention aimed at calling teachers, principals and tutor general to order. This circular approving wearing of hijab by students on their school uniform within and outside school premises, will ensure peace and order in our schools and stability in the state’s education system.”

He subsequently encouraged female Muslim students to be confident, smart and neat while putting on the hijab, just as he urged them to "remain law abiding and be good ambassadors of the religion of peace".

I Regret Ever Marrying My Billionaire Ex-Husband - Ex-Beauty Queen, Dabota Lawson Writes

Dabota and her ex-husband, Sunday
Former beauty queen, actress and entrepreneur, Dabota Lawson, has taken to her Instagram page, to share her regrets in life so far, and revealed that she mostly regrets marrying 64-year-old billionaire, Sunday Aku, in 2014.

Recall that few years ago, the 28-year-old Dabota who got many tongues wagging over her sudden marriage to a wealthy billionaire who is way older than her, had claimed that her decision to marry the much older man, was a well thought out plan which got the nod of her loved ones.
On the age of her husband, Dabota, had stated that she never thought about it for any reason because of the love of God which has brought joy into the family and the affection she has for him.

She said; “When you love somebody, you just love him or her with your whole heart. You do not think about age or anything of that nature. My husband’s age is not a problem because a marriage built on the laws of God must work regardless of age, class or origin and that is what my husband and I have going for us. We face what God has to say before anything else,”  she had told PUNCH.

In her latest post on social media where Dabota shared her life regrets including the marriage to the billionaire, she wrote:
"This weekend I spent a lot of time thinking and talking about past events in my life.

My friends kept saying Dabota everything happens for a reason and you are who you are today because of all that has happened. But I said to them and myself NO!! I’m not soooo thankful, I wish I made better decisions and was careful before getting involved with certain things and certain people.

"I wish I could see the future of how some of my poor decisions will stay hunting me , because they actually do. Every time I win or do better it’s because I chose to and I took a right turn , not always because I’ve learned a lesson. The only thing I know is my mind and heart is just stronger, too strong for my own good, I’m almost not in touch with reality and strictly focused on pursuing goals and making sure everyone and everything around me is fine.

"I miss being care free and the softness and innocence I used to have. I hate the fact that I have major trust issue and assume everyone has an ulterior motive around me . I mostly regret ever getting married in 2014 (please keep all that lessons and whatever you think I got from it talk ) I hate the fact that I did !PERIOD!

"The only I did right that keeps me going was making the decisions to go through with my pregnancy and have my child . My daughter is only thing I’ve done right in the world over 25 years of my life . That’s how I feel.

"Be careful the decisions you make in life . This is a very stern warning , everything you do has a consequence that only you will experience in way only you can understand . BE VERY CAREFUL !  HAVE A GREAT WEEK !"

Buhari delivers speech on corruption at the Peace Forum in France

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in Paris, France, called for stringent actions against perpetrators of illicit financial flows, including crackdown on safe heavens.

Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja, said Buhari made the call at the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum, held on the sidelines of the Centenary of Armistice Day.

Buhari warned that continuous impunity would encourage more pilfering of countries’ resources to the detriment of poor and vulnerable populace.

The President said Nigeria had strengthened its laws and institutions to fight corruption, fast-track recovery of stolen assets and punish offenders, urging more commitment from governments and international institutions.
He delivered his statement on “Illicit Financial Flows (Iffs) and Corruption: The Challenge of Global Governance’’ during the event, attended by about 70 world leaders and governments.

He said: “We must crack down on safe havens for corrupt assets.
“I also advocate sanctions by professional bodies against transactional middlemen (lawyers, bankers, brokers, public officials, etc.) who facilitate Illicit Financial Flows.

“I would like to reiterate that the Government of Nigeria remains open and is ever willing to continue to identify and share experiences and strategies to give life to the ideas that will lead to winning the fight against corruption.’’
The Nigerian leader noted that illicit financial flows posed a risk to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to him, this is so as many countries grapple with the challenge of gathering resources to improve their Human Development Index, while a few privileged individuals continue to explore the weaknesses in financial systems.
“Our experience in Nigeria is that financial crimes, such as corruption and fraudulent activities, generate enormous unlawful profits which often prove so lucrative that the threat of a jail term is not sufficient to deter perpetrators.

“A more powerful deterrent is to ensure that profits and assets generated from illicit financial flows and corruption are recovered and returned to countries of origin.

“This is not to under-estimate the value of strong institutions. It only indicates that asset recovery represents significant deterrence compared to the traditional focus on obtaining conviction by the law enforcement agencies of the countries of origin,’’ he said.

The President urged world leaders and global institutions to remain resolute on the Global Declaration Against Corruption made in London in 2016.

He observed that the declaration had encapsulated the collective commitment to the principles of Open Government Partnership, especially the National Action Plans to actualize beneficial ownership transparency and enhance the capacity of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs).

Buhari said the Independent Reporting Mechanisms and support for the activities of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes should be reinforced.

“As we take stock of the strengths and weaknesses of domestic, regional and international mechanisms against Illicit Financial Flows, I seize this opportunity to recall the Global Declaration Against Corruption made in London in 2016 and our commitment thereto,’’ he added.
He said said tremendous progress had been achieved through the enactment of global instruments, noting that some fundamental technical issues remain unresolved.

“These revolve around the formulation of policy and regulatory frameworks that cut across different jurisdictions.
“We must not lose sight of the role played by secret companies, banks and law firms, all too often based in developed economies and their related offshore centres.

“Recent studies reveal that flaws in the global financial system enable corrupt individuals to hide details of their financial dealings under the noses of governments and law enforcement agencies.

“This underscores the need to urgently address the issue of Mutual Legal Assistance, as well as continental legal frameworks, in the context of safe havens for illicit transfers,’’ he said.

The president disclosed that the Whistle-Blowing policy had facilitated recovery of billions of naira from corrupt persons, which had been redirected to the development of critical infrastructure and programmes that would benefit all Nigerians and realisation of the SDGs.

At the continental level, the President said the African Union had bestowed on him the honour to champion the fight against corruption across the continent.

He, therefore, assured that this task would be focused on strengthening international cooperation on asset tracing, recovery and repatriation, and enhancing cooperation between the African Union and the United Nations’ anti-corruption monitoring mechanisms.

EXPOSED: HIV-infected soldier rapes 70 boys

Police in Thailand have arrested an HIV-infected soldier Sgt. Maj. Jakkrit Khomsing who allegedly blackmailed and raped more than 70 teenage boys.
Police said in a statement that they received a complaint that Khomsing was using fake social media profiles on Facebook and the gay dating app Blued to win the trust of his victims.

Police Lt. Col. Nacharot Kaewpetch said the victims would send their nude photos to Khomsing before agreeing to meet him.

When they found out he was not who he pretended to be online, he would threaten to make their nude photos public if they refused to have sex with him.

Kaewpetch said police discovered medicine for treating HIV when they arrested the 43-year-old Khomsing at his home Wednesday in the northeastern province of Khon Kaen.

They said tests confirmed he was infected with HIV.

So far police have determined that Khomsing had more than 70 victims between the ages of 13 and 18.

“Even though the suspect is a soldier, this behavior — and I’ve consulted with army commanders — is a personal issue, not an organisational one,” police Maj. Gen. Surachate Hakparn said.

Police said they are widening their investigation and attempting to contact other victims who have not yet filed charges.

Police have so far charged Khomsing with six offenses, including sex with a minor under 15 with or without their consent, punishable by 4-20 years in prison.

Other charges are indecent assault of a minor under 15 using threats, punishable by up to 10 years in prison; separating a minor under 15 from their parents without reason, punishable by 3-15 years in prison; blackmail, punishable by up to 3 years in prison; and coercing minors to conduct inappropriate acts, punishable by up to three months in prison.

Husband kills wife and brother after catching them having sx

A man has killed his reportedly wife and elder brother after he woke in the middle of the night and caught them having sx.

Oleg Kirkunov, 54, lived in Ufa, Russia, with his wife Olga Sukhanova, 44. His brother Evgeny, 65, joined them for a meal and drinks at their home and he was invited to stay the night and sleep in the couple’s spare room.

But Oleg woke in the night after hearing “noises” coming from the spare room. Realising his wife was not in bed beside him, he went to investigate and found his brother having sx with his wife, so he shot them dead.

Graphic footage recorded by police shows Olga lying dead on the bed, with a huge head wound and the body of Evgeny can be seen on the floor in a pool of blood. A gun was also seen on the floor in the video.

The man can be seen explaining what happened to the police and confesses to killing the pair.

Explaining what transpired, police said the unemployed man – a keen hunter – grabbed his Saiga gun and shot his wife in the head as she lay in the bed. Then he gunned down his brother who had dressed and was trying to escape. He then immediately called police and confessed to the killings – and the reason he shot them.

The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that “the criminal has been detained”. Charges have been brought against him. He is accused of double murder.

Meanwhile, Oleg has been praised as a “hero” on social media.

One commenter said: “Well done, brother! I would have done just the same.”

Another wrote: “Cheer up, you will go to jail, this is true, but you have done the absolutely right thing.”

“Don’t regret it, don’t mind police and other bureaucrats, you are the hero,” another comment reads.

Slain Evgeny is a power station engineer. He was married to a woman called Faina and is believed to have two adult daughters and grandchildren

This Woman Is 100% Physically Healthy…But Wants to Live as a Disabled Person, Identifying as ‘Transabled

This has to be one of the strangest stories I’ve heard in a while: Chloe Jennings-White, a 61-year-old chemist from Salt Lake City, Utah, is perfectly healthy, but identifies as ‘transabled’ and prefers to live life in a wheelchair.
Yes, you read that right.
The official name for this condition is Body Integrity Identity Disorder.
Jennings-White wears leg braces to give herself a “paraplegic feel” and claims that she’s dreamed of this since she was a child. When she was only 9-years-old, Jennings-White rode her bicycle off of a stage that she had set up in a park with the sole intention of breaking her back and becoming paralyzed. It didn’t work, and she realized that she could’ve been paralyzed from the neck down, which was not her intent. Jennings-White only wishes to be paralyzed from the waist down.

Jennings-White hopes to have a surgery done where her sciatic and femoral nerves will be severed, but obviously she can’t find a doctor to perform the procedure.

The story has made a lot of people pretty angry.

Study finds new HIV drug fully effective :Drug kills 99 per cent of virus during first human trial

A new HIV drug created by Israeli researchers has passed its first human clinical trial.

At end of the trial, it was discovered that the drug, named Gammora, created by Zion Medical, an Israeli biotech company was capable of wiping out 99 per cent of HIV infected cells in the human body.

According to a statement released by the company and available on PR Newswire, Gammora was able to eliminate up to 90 per cent of the virus during the first four weeks of the trial.

Zion Medical developed the drug Gammora in collaboration with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Sirion Biotech in Germany.

The drug is designed to attack and kill the HIV-infected cells in the human body without causing damage to the healthy cells.

In the study, researchers randomly assigned nine participating patients from the Ronald Bata Memorial Hospital in Uganda to receive different doses of Gammora between four to five weeks in July and August of this year.

While the new HIV drug is still in its first stage of exploration, the results have already offered hope that a cure for the dreaded virus is possible.

“Most patients showed a significant reduction of the viral load of up to 90 per cent from the baseline during the first four weeks,” said Dr. Esmira Naftalim, Zion Medical’s head of development
